ORLANDO'S CHOICE FOR PALOMAR PERMANENT HAIR REDUCTION

THE OLD SOLUTIONS

If you live with unwanted hair, you’ve probably tried of the typical solutions, such as tweezing, shaving, waxing, and electrolysis. If so, you’ve also found some that:
  • Shaving is a daily nuisance.
  • Waxing is painful and only a short term solution.
  • Electrolysis is effective, but since it only treats one hair follicle at a time, it’s not practical for large areas and is extremely time consuming.

The Pulsed Light Alternative
Palomar Pulsed Light Systems offer a lasting solution for unwanted hair:

  • Permanent: Concentrated pulses of light loosen the hair and disable the cells responsible for new hair growth.
  • Fast: Small areas, such as the underarms or upper lip can be treated in ten minutes or less, and even large areas, like the back or legs, can be treated in under a half hour.
  • Comfortable: Various cooling methods keep the light pulses mild and skin-safe, allowing for more comfortable treatments than electrolysis and waxing.
  • Convenient: Unlike waxing, there is no need to let hair grow out between treatments. You can remain hair free all the time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does Palomar pulsed light work?
Palomar Systems use specialized handpieces which filter light from different parts of the spectrum. Each band of the spectrum has a wavelength that is ideal for different treatments, such as hair reduction, sunspot removal, and acne treatment.

The Palomar hair removal handpieces emit pulses of light into the hair follicle. The light is absorbed by the pigment in follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for growing new hair.

How is Palomar pulsed light different from a laser?
Pulsed light systems and lasers are very similar, but Palomar offers the most powerful pulsed light system available. Palomar uses a much larger treatment window than most lasers. This spreads light over a wider area of skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker treatments as a result.

What body areas can I get treated?
Any area, except directly around the eyes. The upper lip, face, neck, underarms, bikini line, chest, arms, back, and legs can all be treated.

Is there any downtime?
No downtime is involved; patients can return to normal activities immediately.

Are there any side effects?
Possible side effects include reddening of the skin and mild swelling. Burns, patchy regrowth and pigmentation changes are very rare.

How long do the results last?
The hair reduction should be permanent, though it will not eliminate 100% of hair growth, and occasional touch-ups may be necessary.

How many treatments are needed?
Because hair can only be affected during certain growth cycles, several treatments are necessary. Usually five to seven sessions are required to achieve the desired effect.

How long does the treatment last?
The duration varies depending on your individual needs and the size of the area to be treated. Appointments usually range from a half hour to an hour.

What are Palomar hair reduction treatments like?
A topical gel will be applied and Dr. Serrao will move the handpiece over your skin, pulsing it all the while. Each pulse will send a beam of light through your skin into the hair follicle. A flashing light, and audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell you when the handpiece is being pulsed.

How does the treatment feel?
Most patients experience a little discomfort. Some patients may feel heat or a slight stinging sensation similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin.

Who should avoid IPL Hair Removal?
Patients with keloids, dark skin, dark tans or recent tans may not be ideal candidates. Darker skin tones are at an increased risk of side effects, and white hair cannot be treated with Intense Pulsed Light. Intense Pulsed Light may not be recommended for pregnant women or clients taking blood thinners.

What are alternative treatments?
Laser treatments, waxes, electrolysis and shaving are alternatives.

Instructions before treatment:
Do not tan or stay in the sun for extended periods of time before treatment. Avoid aspirin and other blood thinners.

Instructions after treatment:
Avoid any sun exposure for 48 hours and wear SPF 30 sunscreen. You may apply cool compresses to reduce any redness and swelling

What should I expect after treatment?

  • Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. This usually lasts two to twenty-four hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs.
  • The treated hair will continue to appear for seven to thirty days post-treatment. This is not new hair growth, but the treated hairs being expelled from the skin.
  • At any given time, some of your hair is not in a phase of active growth. Therefore you will need more than one treatment to affect the growth of all your unwanted hair.
  • Typically, several treatments will be necessary to achieve permanent hair reduction.
