Orlando's Choice For Chemical Peels

The Serrao MedSpa offers effective chemical and organic peels. Medical grade alpha-hydroxy acid and beta-hydroxy acid peels provide for a stronger method of corrective exfolation and are non-invasive. Ancient Egyptians and the Romans used various lactic acids to peel their skin. In the Middle Ages, wine vinegar with tartaric acid as its active ingredient, was used for the same purpose. Today, these “chemical peels” are known to contain alpha hydroxy acids, which are the active ingredients responsible for the skin exfoliationPeels have numerous benefits and may be used in conjunction with your aesthetic services to enhance and maintain the desired results. They effectively treat sun damage, fine lines, large pores, acne, congestion, and hyper pigmentation. The Vitamin C peel is a favorite for the mother-to-be! Our experienced medical aesthetician will evaluate your skin and discuss her findings with you. Together, you will determine which peel or series of peels would benefit your skin’s needs the most.

What is a Chemical Peel?
Chemical peels are a category of advanced clinical skin rejuvenation treatments that aid in reversing damaged skin due to factors such as aging, sun exposure and acne.

Who are candidates for Chemical Peels?
Clients who have facial blemishes, wrinkles, large pores, congestion, dull tone, acne and uneven skin pigmentation are candidates.

How long will the treatment last?
From start to finish the procedure should take approximately 30 minutes. There is little or no downtime.

When can I schedule my next peel?
Chemical peels can be done every two to four weeks depending on the type of peel. We recommend a series of six for maximum benefits.

What should I do after my peel?
You may be more sensitive to the sun, so limit sun exposure during treatment and for at least one week afterward. Use a recommended sunscreen of at least SPF 30 or higher.

Avoid strenuous exercise for at least two to three days, as the perspiration may irritate the skin.

When washing your face, do not scrub. Use a sensitive cleanser.

Avoid wearing foundations after the treatment or during the days when skin is actually peeling. Many foundations contain ingredients that are greasy, fragranced, and irritating.

Ask about our post-procedure camouflage Colorescience make-up kits.

Do not “help” the skin peel to avoid scarring or rashes. Do not pull on or peel shedding skin. You can control the flaking with a light moisturizer.

Do not have any facial treatments for at least one week after your chemical peel. You may resume regular use of Retin-A, alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) products, or bleaching creams only after the peeling process is complete.

TYPES OF PEELS

VITAMIN C PEEL
The vitamin C peel is a blend of L-Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) and active fruit enzyme powders to create a stimulating, antioxidant mask. The fruit enzyme component digests dead protein, exfoliates and preps the skin. The Vitamin C can then perform its job better, which is to help reinforce the skins ability to produce collagen and strengthen itself. It is a unique Vitamin C and enzyme combination that feeds the skin with essential collagen boosters at the same time you are polishing the skin for a noticeably smoother appearance. It also contains a blend of citric essential oils that are not only aromatic, but also therapeutic in there own antioxidant content.
  • Stimulates collagen & strengthens elasticity
  • Promotes healthy capillaries
  • Gives a radiant, healthy glow
  • Visible difference in firmness & wrinkle reduction
ORGANIC PEELS
Speed up the skin's natural exfoliation process with our organic line of peels to reveal younger-looking skin. Our unique peel system alternates different therapies to target the skin's receptors that are responsible for activating cell turnover. Results-INSTANT! Combine the purity and potency of vitamins with all-natural enzymes from cranberries, blueberries, cherries, pumpkin, chocolate, and red wine to effectively stimulate and redefine your skin. Each one of these organic peels combine the purity and potency of nature's healing agents utilizing chiral technology (positive molecules seperated through a purification process). These chirally correct positive molecules that are extracted have the unique ability to bond with the skin's cells to receive maximum benefits from each nutrient and eliminates having any negative skin reactions. It is a nutrient rich cocktail of natural ingredients which will replenish, repair, restore, and renew your skin!

GLYCOLIC PEEL

HOW DOES GLYCOLIC ACID WORK?
Glycolic Acid comes in varying strengths. At lower strengths it is used as an exfoliant and at higher strengths it is used as a mild peel. As an exfoliant, it softens and loosens the dry, dead skin cells that form a barrier layer on the skin surface. This allows the skin to shed the dead cells. The process uncovers new skin cells to reveal a smoother, moister, and fresher skin surface.

At the same time, Glycolic Acid loosens the natural oils and dirt that build up in the pores. This deep cleansing action minimizes the appearance of the pores and reduces the development of pimples or other breakouts.

Glycolic Acid also stimulates circulation to the skin. By doing this, the body’s production of elastin and collagen is increased so that the skin is more supple.

Removing dead skin cells, cleaning out pores, and stimulating the production of elastin and collagen results in healthier and more youthful skin. The new living cell retain moisture better, which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

WHO SHOULD NOT GET A GLYCOLIC PEEL?
Glycolic Peels should not be performed on patients who:
  • Are using Accutane or have used a Rx within one year.
  • Are known to be allergic to AHA or BHA
  • Are sunburned or have an infectious lesion such as impetigo or herpes. Any trauma may spread the disease.
  • Have had a recent waxing, depilation, or electrolysis on the area to be peeled. Wait 5-7 days
  • Are using a prescription, which may cause sensitivity. Check with a doctor regarding treatment.
  • Are pregnant or lactating. Although Glycolic Acid is non-toxic, AHA safety has not been determined.
  • Have had a laser resurfacing or any other deep peel within the last year. Physician clearance is necessary.
WHAT CAN THE PATIENT EXPECT AFTER A SERIES OF PEELS?
Wash #1- Skin will appear brighter and smoother. There is a general overall improvement.
Wash #2- Skin appears much smoother. There may be some red patches around the mouth, chin or cheekbones.
Wash #3- Skin may appear excessively dry and flaking may occur. The patient may even experience some scabs.

Patients sometimes refer to this stage as the “uglies”. You may wish to give yourself an extra week prior to the next wash. This allows the skin to rest and refresh itself. You should continue on the At-Home Maintenance Program.

Wash#4-6- Skin appears smoother. Fine lines are diminished. Improvement in pigment. Complexion has better color due to improved circulation.
